Matt, a member of Shepherd of the Hills and alum of Shepherd of the Hills Christian School, joined Youth With A Mission (a global missionary training program) after graduating high school. It was there that he developed a personal relationship with Jesus and a passion for international mission work. He served with YWAM in South Africa for 3 months and in Kenya and Uganda through a small NPO that he co-founded. There he was able to provide aid to some struggling orphanages during a drought. Matt had been to Nicaragua on a mission trip while in high school. He later received the opportunity to accompany a team to Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. He eagerly joined the team and has been going back consistently (about two or three times a year) ever since. They have constructed the girls and boys dorms as well as the cafeteria on a state of the art (for the area) edifice. The team will begin construction on an infants’ wing shortly. More important than the physical labor that they perform is the relationships that they have cultivated with the children of the orphanage and the local workers. Because they continue to return, not only do the Nicaraguans and the Americans know each other by name, but have actually formed strong friendships. The Lord is doing a great work through our mission in Nicaragua.
